Ancestral Goa

Location : Loutolim, (North Goa)

If you’re up for a spiced-up slice of Goa, head for Loutolim. Constructed on nine acres of land is Ancestral Goa developed by a local artist on his ancestral property. This mock-up is a recreation on an entire Goan village and includes details like a farmer’s hut, a distillation unit, the staple Goan wayside cross and a Boca-de Vaca or village spring. Displays of various tradesmen and a market place give you a nostalgic hint of a Goa that no longer exists.

Then, there’s the piece-de-resistance of this theme park – a larger-than-life sculpture of Sant Mirabai, the ‘longest laterite sculpture’ in India and an entry in The Limca Book Of Records. At Ancestral Goa, you can also visit The Big Foot Tiatr Hall of Fame, which showcases handprints of the local legends of tiatr (Konkani Theatre); and the Big Foot Art Gallery, where local and national artists often have their work on display. There’s also a smattering of handicrafts and specialty artisan shops selling souvenirs.
