Hong Kong Disneyland

Opened in September 2005, Hong Kong’s Disneyland is the smallest of Disneylands anywhere in the world. But that only means the fun is more intense. Located on reclaimed land in Penny’s Bay on Lantau Island, it’s where all your fantasy characters hang out, regaling children and firing up their dream world. So if you're visiting Hong Kong and want to gift your kids some Disney magic, head straight here. It may be fairly small but there are seven theme parks – Main Street USA, Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, Adventureland, Toy Story Land, Mystic Point and Grizzly Gulch. There are also thrills and spills for adrenalin junkies that go by names such as the Space Mountain roller-coaster in Tomorrowland, the Big Grizzly Mountain ride in Grizzly Gulch and heart-stopping RC Racer in Toy Story Land.

Costumed characters from the classic stories including Alice, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Winnie The Pooh, Cinderella and Mickey Mouse meet and greet kids at all the theme parks. There’s also a daily parade through Main Street at 3.30 pm, and a music, light and fireworks show at Sleeping Beauty's Castle at 8pm.

Since Disneyland is such an icon of America and one of its most visible cultural exports, a dash of Chinese culture has been added to Hong Kong’s Disneyland. While wandering around, you will spot these elements, which are nicely blended into the architecture and proceedings. Location: Lantau Island
