Need to know Antarctica Cruises

* Cruises : Hurtigruten offers four types of cruises to Antarctica – Antarctic Peninsula: Land of Penguins, Polar Circle Expedition, In The Land Of The Great Explorers and the Great Antarctic Expedition. Price tags vary with the type and duration of the cruise.

* Due to the extreme weather conditions, cruise operators operate only a few voyages each, every 12 months. Since berths are very limited, book well in advance.

* Itinerary : Given the extreme wind, weather and ice, itineraries may be modified mid-voyage by the captain, keeping safety in mind.

* Departing : All cruises depart from Ushuaia, at the very tip of South America. Since Ushuaia is not served by international flights, you need to first fly in to Buenos Aires in Argentina and then take a domestic flight to Ushuaia.

* On-Board : On board your cruise, look forward to lectures that acquaint you with Antarctica and the magnificent journey that is about to unfold.

* Excursions : All types of cruises include landings and excursions at all sites but the length of time on shore varies with the type of cruise you select. Each site offers a unique experience, close encounters with wildlife and exciting historic tales. For instance, there are excursions to Deception Island, Half Moon Island and Yankee Harbour, an old base of operations for early sealers. On some voyages, the expedition team offers activities such as special hikes, kayaking and spending the night in a tent on land.

Embarking on a voyage to Antarctica is now easy.
